How Limagrain Seeds connects field production, growers, quality and plant processing with exactllyERP
For more than three years, Limagrain Seeds has used exactllyERP to connect the seed lifecycle from field production and grower management through quality control, plant processing, lot management, warehousing, sales, finance and banking.
Customer Proof
Why seed operations are fundamentally different
In most manufacturing businesses the operating record begins when material arrives at a plant. In a seed business it begins a season earlier, in a field, with a grower. That changes what the ERP needs to track from the outset.
It also changes where quality sits. In seed production, quality is not a check performed on arrival at the plant. It starts in the field and keeps influencing what may move next, all the way to a packed bag in a warehouse.
Production starts in the field
A season, a location, a production field, an acreage, a grower and a lot all exist before the plant is involved at all. The record has to begin there.
Quality starts before plant receipt
Field observations, germination indicators, flowering dates, isolation, off-types, agronomy assessment and yield estimates all matter before a harvest ever reaches the plant.
Quality continues through processing
Testing, moisture, physical purity, germination and related evaluations keep influencing movement, treatment, lot handling and whether seed is ready to be packed.
Lot identity and seasonal commercial control
The lot has to survive drying, shelling, conditioning, treatment, bulking and packing while grower, warehouse, distribution and commercial processes stay connected to it.
The four conditions above are general seed-industry context. The sections that follow describe Limagrain Seeds' implementation of exactllyERP. They should not be read as a description of how every seed business operates.
Customer snapshot
Limagrain Seeds is the Indian field-seeds business of the Limagrain group. Limagrain Field Seeds entered India in 2009, and the Indian entity became Limagrain India Pvt. Ltd. in 2019. It is headquartered in Hyderabad, and its crop portfolio spans maize, hybrid rice, pearl millet, mustard and sunflower, reaching the market through more than 1,000 distributors and more than 5,000 retailers. Company background is published on Limagrain Seeds India and the Limagrain field seeds site.
That corporate context is background only. What follows is about the operating machinery: the sequence a seed lot travels through from a production field to a packed, dispatched, invoiced and collected sale.
What Limagrain Seeds has to connect
The difficulty is not any single function. It is that an identity created in a field, against a season, a location and a grower, has to survive drying, shelling, conditioning, treatment, bulking, packing, warehousing and a seasonal sales cycle without being re-entered or reconstructed at each stage.
Limagrain Seeds has used exactllyERP for more than three years across that whole span, for both Foundation Seed production and Hybrid Seed production.

Field production, growers and field quality
The record begins a season before the plant
Limagrain Seeds uses Exactlly Field Production for both Foundation Seed production and Hybrid Seed production. The implementation defines the season, the location and the production field, measures field acreage, and generates the lot number at field level, so a lot exists as a record before any material moves.
Agronomy observations are captured against that field, and field evaluation is recorded before field dispatch to the plant. By the time seed reaches the plant, its field, grower and lot history is already part of the operating record.

Field quality control, before anything reaches the plant
In seed production the first quality decisions are agronomic, and they are taken in the field. What is observed there determines whether a crop should progress at all, so those observations belong in the operating record rather than in a separate field notebook.
Exactlly's seed-production workflow is designed to capture field observations such as isolation distance and previous crop; male and female germination percentage; date of 50% flowering for male and female; off-types per acre for male and female; tassels, spurs and shedders per acre; detasseling and roughing start and finish dates; agronomy rating; nick status and days; first and second yield estimation; male chopping and harvesting start and end; male and female population per acre; and remarks.
Those field names illustrate the depth the seed workflow is built for. Limagrain Seeds uses field agronomy observations and field evaluation as part of its current Field Production workflow, together with lot generation and field dispatch. The point is that a field evaluation is a quality gate: it decides what is allowed to travel to the plant.

Grower and organiser management
Seed production is carried out by growers, often organised through an organiser. Limagrain Seeds manages both in exactllyERP, together with grower and organiser payout calculation, advance adjustment and Foundation Seed reconciliation.
The effect is that the production activity and the financial obligation it creates stay attached to each other. What was produced, by whom, against which advance, and what remains to be settled are answered from the same record rather than assembled from a field register and a ledger separately.
Grower
The producer the field and lot are attached to.
Organiser
The party through whom production is organised.
Settlement
Payout calculation, advance adjustment and Foundation Seed reconciliation.
Mobile field operations
Limagrain Seeds uses a mobile Field Production application integrated with exactllyERP through APIs. Field activity is captured where it happens and synchronised into the same operating record the plant and the office work from.
That matters in a business whose first operating stage is spread across locations and fields rather than concentrated on a shop floor.
Seed testing, processing and lot traceability
Quality does not enter the workflow when seed reaches the laboratory. It continues a record that began in the field.
Seed testing, and how it governs movement
Limagrain Seeds raises a Request for Testing against different test definitions, and quality control is applied to seed movement. Quality is therefore part of deciding whether seed progresses, rather than a report produced after it already has.
Seed testing is its own discipline. Exactlly's seed workflow supports specialised testing steps such as Request for Testing and receiving at the laboratory, moisture testing, germination-related testing, physical purity, sizing, cold test, warm test, field emergence, GOT test, EL test, weight test and date-of-test tracking.
Those are examples of the seed-specific testing the product is built for. Limagrain Seeds' confirmed current use is the Request for Testing workflow, different test definitions, and quality control on seed movement, continuing from the field evaluation described above.

Moisture, germination and yield
Three measures run through a seed operation and connect its field and plant halves. Moisture governs whether seed can be safely conditioned and stored, and it is why drying sits so early in the process. Germination is the measure of whether seed will actually perform, and germination indicators are watched from the field onward. Yield connects what was planned against what the season delivered.
Limagrain Seeds' confirmed current use covers Yield Planning, field agronomy observations and field evaluation, and the testing and quality-control workflow. What matters for this story is that all three measures sit in one record rather than in three separate ones.
The plant processing flow follows the physical seed sequence
The implemented process runs from reception of field material through drying and shelling, conditioning, cleaning and treatment, then bulking and rebulking, lot management, packing planning and a packing or treatment work order executed against a bill of materials.
These are the actual physical stages of seed processing, and exactllyERP follows that sequence directly, in the plant's own vocabulary.

Lot management and end-to-end traceability
Lot generation, lot management and end-to-end traceability are in current use. The lot created against a production field remains identifiable through dispatch, reception, processing, quality, bulking and rebulking, packing and into the warehouse.
The lot is the spine of the record, because it is a key link connecting finished inventory back to its field and grower. It is also what makes the quality history usable: a test result is only meaningful if you can still tell which seed it belongs to after that seed has been dried, blended and packed. General reference material on the subject is available in batch and lot traceability.

Yield planning, packing and finished seed
Yield planning is in current use. It connects planned acreage and expected production with what the field actually produced, what processing and quality acceptance passed through, and what was finally packed. Because those figures sit in one environment, the question "what did we plan, and what did we end up with" is answered from the record. How expected and actual output are set and read in general is covered in scrap, by-product and yield.
Packing indent, packing planning, packing and treatment bills of materials, work orders and finished inventory are all implemented. This is the bridge between plant processing and the downstream warehouse: the point where a processed lot becomes a finished, packed product with a stock position.
Warehousing, C&F and the seasonal sales cycle
Multi-location warehouse and C&F inventory
Seed reaches its market through a distribution footprint rather than from a single warehouse door, so stock has to be visible and controlled wherever it is held, including at clearing and forwarding (C&F) locations.
Limagrain Seeds uses barcode and scanning across its multi-location warehouse and C&F inventory operations, along with stock transfer and supply, and inventory in and out adjustments. Barcode scanning helps keep recorded and physical inventory aligned across locations.
Seasonal sales, credit and distribution
Exactlly connects seasonal sales, customer credit, invoicing, collections and distribution with the same operating environment that manages field production, plant processing and inventory.
The commercial cycle runs on a season rather than continuously, so the sales season and price master come first, advance booking commits demand ahead of availability, and credit exposure is checked before goods are released.
- Sales season & price master
- Advance booking
- Customer order
- Credit control
- Distribution
- Invoice
- Collection / adjustment
- Returns
Alongside that sequence, the implementation covers multiple sales seasons, automatic invoice adjustment, sales order upload, credit-limit checks, overdue and customer block, temporary credit limits, customer credit evaluation, discounts and credit-note posting, ageing and DSO, and the sales organisation, geography, salesman-to-customer and distributor-to-retailer hierarchies the commercial structure depends on.
Mobile sales and marketing
Limagrain Seeds uses a mobile sales and marketing capability integrated with the ERP, covering salesperson target against actual, customer order, customer outstanding and statement, and customer credit-limit availability.
A field sales team asking whether a customer can take another order needs the same credit position the office is looking at, while engaging with the customer.
Purchase, finance, banking and management
Purchase
Purchase indent, purchase order, goods receipt note and payable invoice run in exactllyERP, together with inward and outward freight payment management and non-seed inventory.
Finance, banking and controls
Limagrain Seeds uses exactllyERP for ledger and subledger, cost centre, activity and project cost capture, vendor dues and ageing, bank payment processing, cash-flow projection, bank reconciliation, financial reporting and group-reporting mapping. Banking and collection processes are integrated through APIs.
Fixed assets are managed in the same environment, with asset groups, depreciation, asset numbering and tagging, transfers and disposal. Governance is handled through audit-trail reporting, maker and checker on journal vouchers, user roles and rights, and segregation of duties.
Management visibility
Limagrain Seeds uses budget and forecast reporting, analytical dashboards, user-defined reports, multidimensional and management reporting, and mobile dashboard access.
Because field production, plant processing, quality, lots, inventory, sales and finance all sit in one connected environment, a management question is answered from the record rather than assembled across systems after the fact.
